Gunnison climbers Ryan Rees and Lindsey Schauer at the “climbing zine thing” hosted at The Firebrand Delicatessen in Gunnison, Colorado; the favorite restaurant for The Climbing Zine’s staff.

The Climbing Zine got kicked off in 2009, in Gunnison, Colorado, mostly as just a fun thing to do.

Al Smith III and Luke Mehall edited and published the zine. Smith moved away from the Gunnison Valley region to attend graduate school shortly after, and Mehall took the reigns for editing Volume 2, with a big help on the graphic design front from Mallory Logan. Mehall moved to Durango, Colorado, but he and Logan took Volume 3┬áto a new level, as professional and high quality as possible. The partnership continues and we strive to make each volume better than the last. With Volume 4 and the launch of this website we’ve added more and more members to the crew, including web designer, Lisa Slagle, editor, Lisa Lynch, contributing editor, Mike Reddy, and exclusive consultant, Shaun Matusewicz.

Volume 5, The Dirtbag Issue is our latest offering.

We aim to represent all climbers true to the essence of climbing.

If you would like to contact us give Luke a shout at luke@climbingzine.com.

We are always looking for more people to contribute material to the zine.
